2023 Emmy Awards: “Legacy” leads with 27 nominations as HBO’s network record.
The nominations for the 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards were revealed Wednesday morning, and HBO broke the record set by NBC in 1992 with four series – the critically acclaimed “Heirs” and “White Lotus” and a video game adaptation. The Last of Us and House of the Dragon, the Game of Thrones prequel, are vying for outstanding drama.
Continuity, which also topped the list of nominees in 2022, dominated the list again this year with a total of 27 nominations in its final season.
The announcement, made by Yvette Nicole Brown of A Black Lady Sketch Show and Community and Frank Sherma, chairman of the Television Academy, comes at a busy time for Hollywood. Much of the industry is closed as the deadline approaches for more than 160,000 SAG/AFTRA union members, in addition to television and film writers who have been on strike since May. Opening Wednesday’s presentation, Sherma said, “We hope the ongoing negotiations between the guilds will come to a fair and speedy resolution.”
