WINTER HAVEN, Florida. – If you think your job is busy, just wait until you see A Day in the Life of Grady Judd.
The Polk County Sheriff is one of the highest ranking law enforcement officers in the country and is in high demand. He is half sheriff, half family man, half friend and half celebrity.
In addition to his primary role as the chief law enforcement officer in one of the nation’s fastest growing counties, he also spends his time volunteering and helping his community in any way he can, and even continues to do high-profile investigations.
FOX 35 News had the rare opportunity to spend an entire day with Sheriff Judd to see how he juggles all of his roles besides being a true celebrity. We learned that his day is full of departmental meetings, social events, personnel discussions, board meetings, family responsibilities and photographs. Yes, photograph.

His chief of staff, Steve Lester, said it was not unusual to receive an email or phone call from the sheriff at 3 a.m. to discuss something on his mind. However, oddly enough, his trusted and dedicated employees don’t seem to mind too much.
Chief Lester told us over lunch, “And you know, it’s a challenge to find out what he needs to be briefed on, what he doesn’t need to worry about at this point in time, because he has so much to do, so there’s so much to do, so much to do. “. Lester went on to say, “This is not a job. This is a calling, and we all love what we do, otherwise we would find something else to do.”
The sheriff is due for re-election in 2024, and he told FOX 35 that he will run again for the job he has held for decades. He’s so popular in Polk County that he hasn’t even had a running contest in the last few elections.
So, if you want to see what life is like for the sheriff, who many call “Polk County’s rock star”, then this is your chance.
