His chief of staff, Steve Lester, said it was not unusual to receive an email or phone call from the sheriff at 3 a.m. to discuss something on his mind. However, oddly enough, his trusted and dedicated employees don’t seem to mind too much.
Chief Lester told us over lunch, “And you know, it’s a challenge to find out what he needs to be briefed on, what he doesn’t need to worry about at this point in time, because he has so much to do, so there’s so much to do, so much to do. “. Lester went on to say, “This is not a job. This is a calling, and we all love what we do, otherwise we would find something else to do.”
The sheriff is due for re-election in 2024, and he told FOX 35 that he will run again for the job he has held for decades. He’s so popular in Polk County that he hasn’t even had a running contest in the last few elections.
So, if you want to see what life is like for the sheriff, who many call “Polk County’s rock star”, then this is your chance.
