DELTON, Florida. – A Florida man was arrested on Wednesday after he shot and killed a 16-year-old with a baby.
Miguel Miranda, 19, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and shooting at an apartment building.
On Feb. 12, MPs answered a call around 7:20 a.m. on Trade Street in Delton, where they found a 16-year-old with a gunshot wound to the arm upon arrival.
Detectives said the victim was sleeping with his 7-week-old nephew in the front bedroom of their home when two shots fired from the window, hitting the victim in the arm. According to official figures, the baby was not hurt.
Throughout the investigation, detectives have stated that they were able to link Miranda and other people of interest to the shooting.
On April 1, Miranda became a driver in a car accident that killed three of his friends, two of whom were questioned in connection with the shooting.
When investigating the accident, law enforcement officers found a gun near the driver’s seat. The bullets for this pistol are the same as those found in the house where the shooting took place in February.
Detectives were able to obtain a warrant to search Miranda’s mobile phone data, which showed it was in the area of the shooting when it happened.
Miranda was arrested and taken to the Volusia County Jail without bail.
