A guest jumps overboard from a Carnival Cruise; The Coast Guard is engaged in search and rescue operations

Jacksonville, Florida (FloridaToday.news) — Search and rescue efforts are currently underway to find a man the US Coast Guard says jumped overboard from a Carnival Cruise Lines ship.

According to authorities, the man identified as Jaylen Hill, 30.

The incident took place aboard the Carnival Elation cruise ship on Sunday morning. The ship was about 95 miles east of Melbourne, Florida at the time of the incident.

Hill fell overboard as the ship was en route to Jacksonville, according to Carnival Cruise Line officials. The crew became aware of the situation when Hill’s traveling companion notified them in the late afternoon that he had not been seen for the day.

A comprehensive search was immediately launched aboard the ship, and CCTV footage was carefully reviewed to ascertain the events leading up to Hill’s disappearance. Unfortunately, the ship’s authorities concluded that the missing guest had jumped overboard.

After notifying coastal authorities of the incident, a decision was made to proceed with the return of the ship to Jacksonville.

Carnival Elation was on a four-day voyage in the Bahamas and returned to Jacksonville on Monday morning.

The US Coast Guard continues to lead the search and rescue effort, deploying both air and ground crews to comb the area in an attempt to find Jaylen Hill.

At the moment, no details about the circumstances of the incident have been reported.
