TAMPA, Florida. The director of the Miami-Dade Police Department was critically injured in the Tampa area. according to South Florida agency.
Director Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez “was critically injured,” the department said in a brief statement shortly after 2 a.m. Monday. Several news outlets in the Miami-Dade area report that Ramirez shot himself, citing law enforcement.
He is undergoing surgery, the department said.
CBS Miami reported that he was in the Tampa Bay area due to the Florida Sheriffs Association Summer Conference, which runs July 23-26.
The Florida Highway Patrol and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are reportedly investigating.
