An investigation is underway into the death of a 16-year-old teenager as a result of a nighttime shooting in Fort Lauderdale.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida. (TodayNews) — Authorities are investigating a shooting in Fort Lauderdale that claimed the life of a 16-year-old in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Around 2:11 a.m., the Fort Lauderdale Police Department received a report of an incident between the 700 and 900 blocks of NW 9th Avenue.

While the officers were reacting, they received an additional call with information about casualties in the area.

One victim was located and taken by the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

The teenager was in the car with several other people at the time of the shooting, and preliminary information indicates that the shooter may have been in another car.

The FLPD said they were unaware of any additional casualties from this shooting and that an investigation into the murder was ongoing.
