Kelly Education is looking for 600 substitutes to help fill teacher vacancies in Hillsborough.
HILLSBORO COUNTY, Florida. With just over two weeks left before the start of the new school year, school authorities are preparing at the last minute.
This includes trying to hire enough teachers and replacing teachers with teachers.
“We’re recruiting consistently throughout the summer to ensure that daily absences, extended teacher absences, and then possibly any existing vacancies we can fill,” said Cheryl Courier, vice president of Kelly Education’s south region.

Kelly Education is working with local school districts to fill open teacher positions with substitute teachers.
“Substitute teachers are really important for continuing education, day in and day out. If, for whatever reason, too many teachers are absent and students are placed in a hall or auditorium, they are not getting the continuing education they need,” Courier said.
They have been working non-stop this summer to increase the number of subwoofers to prepare for the upcoming school year.
“We are always looking for a replacement. There are never many substitutes,” Courier said.
She told ABC Action News that at the end of last school year, Hillsborough County had about 1,000-1,200 deputies and Polk County had 800-900 on any given day.
They are still waiting to receive an accurate number from school districts for the upcoming school year, but the group tells us they are ready to fill thousands of vacancies across Tampa Bay.
Kelly Education is still looking for about 600 more substitute teachers in Hillsborough County to replenish its pool.
“We always strive to keep our pool full so that full-time teachers have coverage. This is not difficult to do; for some of our positions you just need a high school diploma. You can work as many days or fewer days as you like,” Courier said.
“Getting started is very easy. We have a great team in the Tampa Bay area and they would love to hear from anyone who is interested,” she added.
