Man beaten up in theater seat in Pompano Beach spat: ‘He just kept pounding’

POMPANO BEACH, Florida. — A 63-year-old man who deputies say was severely beaten in an argument over seats at a movie theater in Pompano Beach shares his take on what happened.

Officials said the attack took place around 10:00 pm on July 10 at AMC Pompano Beach 18, located at 2315 N. Federal Highway.

The victim, who did not wish to be named out of fear for his safety, told Local 10 News on Friday.

“It happened so fast,” he said. – I did not even expect.

He said he told the suspect that he was sitting in seats bought by him and his wife, but said he received no response, only a look he described as a “contemptuous look”.

He then said he told the man who was there with the woman, “You know what, just hold your seats.” It was then that he said that the situation had escalated.

“He said, ‘Run to your wife, little boy,'” the man said. “I said, ‘Excuse me? You know, you’re a little boy for acting like that. And he jumped up from his seat and said, “Do you want to fight? Do you want to fight?'”

The man said the suspect forced him to reverse.

“I reached out my hand to keep him at a distance. And then either he pushed me or I fell down the stairs, and like a boxer on the ropes, he had a tactical advantage over me. I was on the stairs and he just kept hitting me on the head and I couldn’t get him off me to do it.”

After witnesses pulled the suspect away from the victim, he left and the victim ended up having to go to the hospital with multiple facial injuries.

The victim told Local 10 News that he considers the suspect a dangerous person and would have continued to act if others had not intervened.

“He has no responsibility, he has no courtesy, no compassion, no understanding of what is good and what is not,” he said. “If he hasn’t made someone worse yet, he will.”
