Man sentenced to life in prison for murder on International Drive in 2016
ORLANDO, Florida. – On Thursday, a man was sentenced to life in prison for a 2016 robbery that escalated into a fatal shooting on International Drive in Orange County.
Troy Sparrow, 30, was found guilty of first-degree murder with a gun that killed 52-year-old Osman Darkan from Turkey.
Darkan was on his honeymoon in Orlando with his wife in 2016. He was outside the hotel with his wife when the sheriff’s office reported that Sparrow was trying to steal her purse. Darkan fought Sparrow and Darkan was shot in the head.
During the sentencing, the lawyer read out a statement from the victim from Darkan’s wife, who said she could not return to work after her husband’s death and should be treated by psychiatrists.

“My life was ruined by Troy Sparrow because of a wallet,” the victim said in a statement.
Sparrow, for his part, said he was sorry for the loss of his family, but claimed to be innocent of the crime.
“The eyewitness clearly said it wasn’t me, I didn’t fit the description, they never clearly identified the getaway car, they never clearly identified the weapon, they never clearly identified me as the perpetrator, the one holding the gun,” Sparrow said. “I feel that this trial was very unfair.”
