Miami man arrested during traffic stop in North Carolina on charges of kidnapping a child

Deputies explain that the teen’s family did not know who the 40-year-old was and he did not have permission to transport her across state lines.

NASH COUNTY, North Carolina. A Miami man was arrested July 4 in North Carolina after a traffic stop turned into a kidnapping incident, the Nash County Sheriff’s Office said.

In a Facebook post, the agency says that shortly after midnight, deputies stopped a white 2016 Audi Q5 with a Florida badge on its way north on Interstate 95.

While talking and asking the usual questions to the driver, 40-year-old Alejandro Vasquez, the police reportedly had a reasonable suspicion that something illegal was going on.

After Vasquez agreed to a search of the vehicle, two THC pens with vape cartridges were found in the driver’s door and on the center console, deputies said.

But they also learned during the investigation that the 16-year-old passenger with Vasquez had been reported missing five hours earlier by the Coral Springs Police Department in Brevard County.

The teen was eventually taken to the Wake County Juvenile Detention Center to await reunion with his family.

The deputies explain that the teen’s family did not know who Vasquez was and he did not have permission to transport her across the state line.

The 40-year-old was held at the Nash County Detention Center without initial bail but was later given $500,000 bail during his first court appearance on Thursday.

The agency explains that he was also granted $5,000 bail on other drug-related charges.
