‘Nutty crash’: Florida teen confesses to killing pregnant 16-year-old, detectives say

TAMPA, Florida (FloridaToday.news) — An Orange County teenager has confessed to shooting and killing a pregnant 16-year-old girl, according to NBC affiliate WESH.

The 17-year-old male suspect told investigators the whole thing was a “strange accident.”

The victim, a 16-year-old girl, was only five months pregnant when she was reported missing after being shot in October 2022. She was found four days after her 16th birthday in her front yard in Orange County.

“She was chasing me with something, and I was jokingly saying, ‘Stop playing with me,'” the suspect told detectives. “And the finger just slipped off—boom… [It was a] strange accident … I forgot that I had a gun with me, and then [the victim] jumped out of the car and I thought, “Oh, I pulled the trigger and I thought it was safety and it was an accident.”

The suspect told investigators that he dropped the gun and fled with a friend. WESH reported that witnesses nearby called 911.

Relatives of the suspect confirmed that he beat the victim after they had an argument.

Detectives believe the victim was shot while standing outside the car door, where the argument broke out.

The 11-year-old daughter of a former MLS goalkeeper died when she was thrown off a boat due to strong wake.

According to the investigation, the suspect is accused of shooting and killing a woman in the past and claims that this was also “unintentional”.

“So you accidentally shot two women, both shot in the head?” the detectives asked. “How do you keep finding yourself in these situations?”

He replied, “I don’t know. I don’t know.”

The suspect is charged with second-degree murder and charged with killing an unborn child by injuring the mother.

His pretrial trial is due to begin in September.
