Police have arrested three carjacking suspects in southwest Miami-Dade.
SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FL. (FloridaToday.news) — A car reported to have been stolen at gunpoint Thursday night in the Hammox area was successfully located and three of the four people taken into custody were arrested following a swift police response.
According to Miami-Dade Police, the Real-Time Crime Center issued a “Be Alert” alert after a license plate reader activated in southwest Miami-Dade that collects license plate information and matches it against databases, signaling the presence of a stolen vehicle.
At about 2:30 am on Friday, police officers began search operations in the area where the LPR recorded the presence of a car.
Investigators said the perpetrators hit the two victims in the face with a gun and a glass bottle and then dragged them out of the car before fleeing.
The pursuit ended at the intersection of US 1 and Southwest 200th Street, where the police successfully stopped the stolen vehicle.
Arriving at the scene, forensics took fingerprints from the car and photographed the evidence. Police said they found a handgun in a stopped car.
As a result, the car was towed.
Four people were taken into custody without incident, authorities said. Their identities have not been released as investigators continue to question them.
After the interrogation was completed, the three arrested suspects were taken to the Turner Gilford Knight Correctional Center in West Miami-Dade.
