Terron Armstead of the Dolphins Starts Training Camp on the Puppy List
After suffering four injuries in the 2022 season with the Miami Dolphins, left tackle Terron Armstead will not be ready to start training camp in 2023.
The four-time Pro Bowl linesman was placed on the active/disabled list Tuesday afternoon along with fellow linesman Isaiah Wynn and tight end Tanner Conner before the team’s first practice session on Wednesday.
Armstead, who previously battled injuries for nine seasons with the New Orleans Saints, first suffered a toe injury in last season’s opener with the Dolphins. Mainly playing with illness in all but four games, he then suffered chest, knee, and hip injuries that prevented him from reaching the season’s finish line and losing to Miami in the playoffs at the Buffalo Bills.
Although Armstead is not ready for camp to begin, he posted an encouraging video on his 32nd birthday on Sunday after training.
“11th year of loading. I am excited. I’m ready,” Armstead said in the clip. “I’m going to be the best player on the team, one of the best players in the league.”

Armstead did not participate in the Dolphins’ organized team events and mini-camp this off-season, although he was often present on the sidelines during drills. It’s unknown what injury is still holding him back ahead of training camp, but the toe has always been at the center of his other subsequent ailments last season.
“He’s had a good off-season,” Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said during the mini-camp, but declined to comment if Armstead underwent off-season toe surgery. “I have no doubts about where he is. He had enough training so he did his best and I look forward to meeting him at training camp and I had no reason to hesitate about that.”
Wynn and Conner’s injuries are unknown. The three players placed in the PUP joined defenseman Nick Needham as he repairs a torn Achilles last October. Players on the pup list during training camp can be activated at any time.
It’s a hopeful sign that quarterback Brandon Jones and cornerback Trill Williams aren’t starting PUP camp after they both suffered season-ending knee injuries in 2022.
On Tuesday, the Dolphins activated undrafted quarterback Ethan Bonner from the non-football injury list.
