This Orlando theater has been named one of the most beautiful in the world.

ORLANDO, Florida. – If the whole world is a stage, then Beautiful City has one of the best, according to a new list published by Architectural Digest.

The report lists the world’s most beautiful theaters, from the Opera Garnier to the Sydney Opera House, among them Orlando’s own Steinmetz Hall, located at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.

It stands apart as the only theater on the list representing the US East Coast.

“That was the goal,” said Kathy Ramsberger, president and CEO of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, of the theater being named one of the best. “You always set high goals for yourself. In 2003 we said, “We need to build something that this community and the world can be proud of.” They are difficult to build. There are not many theaters and centers in the world, so we could reach high.”

Ramsberger added that the rating came as a big surprise. Having seen the name in the light of some of the most famous theaters in the world, including the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, Spain, and the Harbin Grand Theater in Harbin, China, the Dr. Phillips Center team was honored, especially given how long it took to see how the project is brought to life.

“It all looked great on paper, but then to implement it and build it, stay on course and make sure we meet the goals that made the hall unique…was a real testament to the city,” the CEO said. “When we started the project back in 2003, I don’t think we really knew we deserved something like that or that we should have something like that.”

Steinmetz Hall opened last year after decades of planning and construction. Theater architect Barton Myers helped bring his dream to life in January 2022.

The 1,700-seat multiform acoustic hall is the second theater in the country to use Gala System seats, which convert a wooden flat floor into 22 rows of seats.
