VIDEO: BSO seeks man accused of beating 63-year-old over theater seats

POMPANO BEACH, Florida. – Broward County deputies are looking for the man they say was behind the “heartless attack” at a Pompano Beach movie theater earlier this month – all because the victim asked him and a partner to switch places.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office released video of the cell phone assault and surveillance video of the suspect in hopes of identifying him and arresting him.

BSO spokeswoman Claudine Caro said the attack took place around 10:00 pm July 10 at AMC Pompano Beach 18, located at 2315 N. Federal Highway.

Caro said that the victim bought VIP tickets, which allowed him to pre-select seats for the film for him and his wife. According to her, when the victim saw the suspect and the woman in their places, he “politely” asked them to move.

Authorities said the suspect reacted impolitely, becoming “hostile, standing up and glaring aggressively at the victim.”

Caro said the suspect “came so close to the victim that he forced him to take a step back and end up on the stairs in the aisle of the theatre.”

According to the deputies, the “hot” dispute soon turned into physical aggression. The victim lost his balance and fell down the stairs.

The suspect was “seen standing over the 63-year-old victim repeatedly punching him in the face until bystanders rushed to the victim’s aid” and dragged the suspect away, deputies said.

The suspect and the woman left the theater while the man had to be taken to an area hospital with “several” head and facial injuries, according to the BSO.

Anyone with information is asked to call BSO Violent Crime Detective Lacey Fitzpatrick at 954-601-5905 or Broward Crime Squad at 954-493-8477.
