Video shows how a reckless driver almost ran over a Miami cop who hit a cruiser in Brickell.
MIAMI (TodayNews) — Miami police on duty were in danger when a reckless driver nearly ran over an officer and then made a chaotic getaway in the Brickell area, the entire collision being caught on video.
Mobile phone footage recorded from a high-rise building captured the heartbreaking moments that took place at the intersection of Southwest Second Avenue and Seventh Street on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Miami City Police, one of their officers initiated a traffic stop on a blue Dodge Charger for an alleged traffic violation.
When the policeman approached the car, investigators said the driver suddenly shifted into reverse gear, narrowly avoiding a collision with the policeman who approached the car.
Despite the dangerous challenge, the situation escalated further when the driver, unable to get the car under control, crashed into a marked police vehicle before hastily fleeing, police said.
The reckless driver fled the scene at high speed and headed for Interstate 95, leaving police to pursue the driver.
None of the officers were hurt.
The police are working to find the person responsible for this dangerous trip.
