‘We must find an answer: Latest Daytona Beach shooting upsets officials’

A shooting near a nightclub in the vibrant Daytona Beach area is forcing officials to crack down on recent violence in the area.

The latest shooting took place outside the Razzles nightclub on Saturday night during an altercation involving several people. Police say at some point the woman pulled out a gun and fired several shots.

When the Daytona Beach police arrived, two people were found on the ground. At least one person who was not involved in the fight was also shot dead. All are expected to be fine.

The Daytona Beach Police Department is looking for people interested in the case and is asking the public to help identify them. The images were posted to the agency’s Facebook page on Sunday.

The shooting is the latest violent incident in the city. Commissioner Ken Strickland said the city is working to get more security cameras and lighting to address the problem, but now he wants to look into metal detectors and other security measures similar to those taken in downtown Orlando after last July’s shooting.

“We cannot allow things like this to continue, we must find an answer to them,” Strickland said on Monday. “This violence is unacceptable. This is unacceptable in this city, it is a tourist city and everyone should come here and feel safe.”

Sue Odena, a resident of nearby Wilde Olive Avenue, said the lights and cameras would be welcome, as well as the opening of the police station, which she said has been constantly delayed. Odena says the violence comes from the people who come to this part of Daytona Beach, not the people who live there.

“This is a good area, all we have are good neighbors. All we want is some peace and quiet,” she said.
